Hello Parents!  The following is information to help you and your children be well prepared for camp, and to know more about how Camp Shamineau operates.  If you have questions please see the "Frequently Asked Questions", or email camp.

Affiliation

Camp Shamineau is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America, but people of all faiths are welcome.

Year Round Youth Group Weekends
Camp Shamineau offers two programmed youth group events, Fall Fling and Winter Wipe Out.  Each event is designed to facilitate the growth of relationships within your youth group and to help each camper in their walk with the Lord.  We host four Fall Fling weekends in October (designed as growth level events), and three Winter Wipe Out weekends in January (designed as outreach level events).  Camp Shamineau provides the programming, activities, and meals so youth leaders can spend all their time with the kids.

Summer Camp

During summer camp, your child will be involved in many activities, games, cabin times and Bible times.  The structure of camp is designed to remove campers from the distractions of everyday life and place them in an environment where they can experience the power of the Holy Spirit and return home changed people ready to face life with a new outlook.  Throughout each camper's time at Shamineau, they will be encouraged and mentored by their cabin counselors as well as the support staff.

Our Commitment
Our commitment is to provide children and youth with the opportunity to experience God's love in a personal way.  Staff members are chosen on the basis of their personal commitment to Jesus Christ, maturity, character and love of kids.  Background checks are conducted, staff attend a mandatory weeklong training session and are regularly evaluated.  We strive to maintain a ratio of ten campers to two counselors.  A nurse or EMT will be on staff at camp during the entire summer.  It is our desire to provide a safe and caring environment for all campers at Camp Shamineau.

Security
A uniformed security guard will be on site during the night to monitor camp.  For your child’s safety, note on your registration form who will be picking your child up from camp, the bus or trips at the end of their camping experience.  We will only release your child to these people.  During the camp week, visitors are strongly discouraged.  All non-registered individuals are required to check in at the office and be clearly identified as a visitor.

Water Safety
Certified lifeguards are on duty whenever swimming activities are available.  All guests using Shamineau boats are required to wear U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets.  Personal safety and the proper use of the equipment are emphasized at all times.

Camp Check-In
• Confirm check in date and time (See individual camp description for days and times of check-in.)

• Arrive at camp at published check-in time; no earlier please (We will be preparing for your arrival and want to be ready to welcome you.)

• TIME SAVER: At check-in, if you are paid in full and have taken care of everything (i.e. cabin pictures, care package, bus, ropes course skills class fees and completed health form) one of our staff members will guide your child directly to his/her cabin.  No waiting in lines!

• If your camper will arrive more than an hour after check-in begins, please notify the camp office at 218-575-2240.

• You will receive more detailed information on the camp week and check-in after you have sent in your child’s registration and payment.

Housing Requests
Our desire at Camp Shamineau is for all campers to make new friends.  We can house a camper with 1-2 friends; however, we reserve the right to separate larger groups.  Please note that Horse Camp participants and Classic Campers are housed separately.

Bus Transportation
A bus will leave New Hope Church (County Road 9 and 169 in New Hope) at 2:00 PM on Sundays and will return on Fridays at approximately 4:30 PM.  Bus reservations are necessary and should be made on the registration form.  Late reservations are not guaranteed, as the buses do fill quickly. Bus fees are not refundable.

Cabin Pictures
For each camp session or trip our photographer takes a great photo of each cabin group.  It is a special personal remembrance of your child’s week at camp.  Most campers receive their picture on Friday as they leave camp, while some Specialty and Trip campers receive them in the mail.  Pictures cost $5.00 and should be ordered and paid for with registration.

DVDs
Bring a piece of your camper’s experience home on DVD. Highlights will include a video slide show, picture slide show, videos seen in chapel, and much more! DVDs can be ordered and paid for with registration.

Dress Code
All dress at Camp Shamineau must be modest.  Items not allowed include, but are not limited to:  spaghetti strap shirts, strapless or mid-riff baring shirts, two-piece swimsuits, and any other tight or revealing clothing.  When packing, err on the side of modesty.  If you have questions about dress code, please call Camp Shamineau.

Clothing
All clothing and personal belongings should be clearly marked with child’s first and last names.  Use only clear plastic bags for soiled clothing.

Lost and Found
Please contact us promptly with detailed description of any items left behind at camp.  Arrangements can then be made for your payment of postage and handling fees to have your items returned.  Items found will be held for only ten days and then discarded.  Towels, pillows, socks, underwear and toiletries will be discarded immediately.

Mail for Campers
Every camper enjoys a letter or a postcard from home.  Counselors encourage campers to write home about their camp experiences.  Please note: we do not accept e-mails or faxes for campers.  Be aware the mail takes 2-4 days for delivery so mail letters or packages early.  Please address all mail as follows: Camp Shamineau, Camper's Name, Camp week (e.g. Trailblazer #1), PO Box 244, Motley MN 56466-0244.  Packages sent by UPS or Fed Ex should be addressed to 2345 Ridge Road.
