About Shamineau Ministries
Shamineau Ministries is the umbrella organization
for Camp Shamineau at Motley, Minnesota and Rock Ridge
Camp at Ely, Minnesota, and has a close working
relationship with Shamineau International Inc.
Historically, Shamineau
Ministries found its beginning in 1914 as the
Minnesota Young People’s Society which started
Buffalo Lake Bible Camp on the shores of Buffalo
Lake in Buffalo, Minnesota. In 1957 that property was sold
to purchase the current property on Lake Shamineau,
becoming Camp Shamineau, with its first summer of
ministry in 1958. Camp Shamineau includes the
Shamineau Ranch and Shamineau Adventures ministries,
both of which provide specialized programming and
trips off-site of Camp Shamineau.
In 1993, a 22 acre island on the
east end of Lake Shamineau was purchased and soon
after became the site for “Shamineau Island” camps.
In the same summer Camp Shamineau provided the
leadership for the first English Language camp in
Austria. In the years since, this ministry grew into
what is known as
Shamineau International and has
expanded to Poland, Brazil and China. Shamineau
International has since been incorporated and
established as a separate and independent non-profit
ministry under the Evangelical Free Church of
America.
In 1999, through the gift of a
generous family, Rock Ridge Camp was purchased.
It began operating in the summer of 2000 providing
resident camps for children and families as well as
outfitting for trips into the Superior National
Forest and Boundary Canoe Waters Area Wilderness (BWCAW). |
